NC VIPER - THE HOSTILE REPTILE
**Interview from Issue 17 of Westside Pro Wrestling Newsletter - January 2011**
NC Viper is heading into his fifth year in the wrestling business and is the most successful Aboriginal wrestler to come out of the WA scene in recent history, if not ever. Tez got the opportunity to speak to Westside Pro Wrestling’s 2010 NHPW Wrestler of the Year about his career.
WPW: How did you get your start in the business?
VIPER: I started out saying wrestling quotes at work at the Nike factory in Subiaco. My friend Bjorn said he knew of a company in Perth to tryout in and I ended up doing three months training with EPW. I made another friend there in Dustin Dice, who brought me in to another promotion in 2006. That was my start in the business.
WPW: How did the name NC Viper come about, as well as the nicknames "The Hostile Reptile" and "The Aboriginal Original"?
VIPER: Towards the end of my Aussie Rules career, I always wanted to be called Viper. I told no-one in the wrestling circle, so when that chance came to be asked what name I wanted to be called, it wasn’t taken. The company didn't want me to be just called Viper; they wanted me to add more to it. So I came up with names, it wasn't working so. I was thinking CM Punk doesn't have a first name so I thought NC? NC Viper. The hostile reptile (laughs), came to me while watching a documentary, the presenter said “the reptile is getting hostile”. So I thought switch the reptile hostile around and boom. It was that simple!! Aboriginal original, (laughs) cause I am. I'm the only in WA.
WPW: In 2007 you won your first championship defeating James Draker (now EPW’s “Gorgeous” Garry Schmidt). What was it like winning the title?
VIPER: Winning a title in any company is gold, but to win so early in my career makes it that much more satisfying. The match was at Unleashed on October 20, 2007. I'll never forget it!
WPW: Can you tell us how the spitting of the mist came about and what do the different colours mean?
VIPER: The venom as I like it to be called. Well, it's Viper marking his territory like any Aboriginal does when he marks his territory. So if you've been marked with the venom I own you, you’re mine. Red: Blinds and burns, Blue: Blinds and confuses and Green: Blinds and causes sickness.
WPW: You are one of very few wrestlers in WA to have his own custom entrance themes, it’s a rarity on the Australian scene. How did it come about and will the themes be available to purchase down the track?
VIPER: Am I? That's great! I asked the same person who got me into wrestling Bjorn, who is also a rapper to do a theme for me “Who's Da Man?” Bjorn also did the AO (Alpha Omega) theme. There are others like Knowledge Bones who's done "NC Viper". Paul Flowers is doing one, which is in progress and Chris O'Mac also has one in the works. You will be able to hear all those songs and other themes I've used for my entrance on CD. The CD will be available at NHPW’s Battle of Honour
show on February 11 or through Facebook at Wrestler Ncviper.
WPW: You made an awesome entrance before your Hardcore Match with Balls Mahoney at NHPW’s Global Conflict. Who came up with the idea for the big entrance?
VIPER: Thanks for thinking it was awesome. It was awesome. I got a lot of good feedback for that entrance. I actually came up with it and it took a lot of organizing. I hope to do it again.
WPW: What have been some of your favourite matches throughout your career?
VIPER: I'm going to pick one from each year that I can remember.
2006: My first (vs. Chris O’Mac and Mark Valour at AAW Intensity) only because I can see how far I have come
2007: I've got two for this year, Xander at AAW's Anniversary 1 and James Draker at Unleashed
2008: vs. Vic Galen at SHWA's Exodus
2009: vs. Powerhouse Theo at NHPW's Hardcore Resurrection
2010: vs. Balls Mahoney at NHPW's Global Conflict
.
WPW: Are there any guys on the Australian scene that you would like to wrestle against or with?
VIPER: KrackerJak in a Cage match, Ace Wilson in a Tag Team match and TNT in a tag team match. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I would be more than happy to have a match with any Aussie fellow wrestler!
WPW: You recently released a DVD of matches from throughout your career called “Once Bitten”. As well as with the entrance theme, this is something you don’t see much on the local scene. Are you happy with how the DVD turned out?
VIPER: I'm happy the way it turned out with Sean K productions. That's five years work on the two discs. So will another come out? Not for a while. Do yourself a favour and buy "Once Bitten" at NHPW or through Facebook at Wrestler Ncviper
WPW: What does NC Viper hope to achieve in wrestling before he retires?
VIPER: To win gold in NHPW and to make sure the fans and wrestlers know who the Hostile Reptile is.
WPW: Thanks for speaking to WPW, Viper.
VIPER: Thanks for this interview booga and catch you at a NHPW show.
